Last week Symantec announced the retirement of Backup Exec.cloud. As of January 6, 2014 service providers will no longer be able to sell Backup Exec.Cloud subscription licenses or renewals for Backup Exec.cloud. Current customers with contracts will be able to continue use of the product until the end of service availability on January 6, 2015 or the end of their current term, whichever comes first, after this date customers and partners will not have access to the service, data or technical support. All customer data will be deleted after their subscription expiration.
According to Symantec, “Customers want features such as sync & share and mobile access. Backup Exec.cloud was not designed with these features in mind. As a result, Symantec has decided to discontinue Backup Exec.cloud in order to focus on more productive and feature-rich cloud-based applications which include this type of functionality.”
A few years back after beta testing Symantec Backup Exec.cloud, Mizon’s President Mark Wertz decided it was time to steer away from Backup Exec.cloud and begin the search for a cloud solution that would be “heartburn free”. Wertz’s search ended when he discovered Zetta.net, a completely “heartburn free” cloud solution that has proven to meet our customer’s needs.
Zetta.net is offering to make the migration from Symantec Backup Exec.Cloud an easy one. Zetta’s offer will allow customers to apply their unused service balance -up to 6 months- to Zetta’s enterprise- grade cloud backup & disaster recovery – free of charge- in addition to a 20% discount cloud backup contract.
Zetta’s patent pending cloud backup technology is focused on performance, and enables customers to protect data sets from 1 TB to 100TB, and backup and recover up to 5TB in 24 hours directly to or from the cloud. All customer data is encrypted, in transit across the internet and at rest in the data center, using 256-bit SSL and Salsa20 encryption. Zetta’s enterprise-grade cloud backup and DR service is HIPAA and ITAR compliant, SSAE-16 audited, and delivers 99.99996% backup reliability and 100% recovery reliability. 24×7 US-based, engineer-level technical support is included, enabling Zetta customers to enjoy overall backup costs that are up to 50% lower than Symantec Backup Exec.
